One thing you don’t want is for your team to burn out by running like a chicken with your heads cut off. You want your team to know and understand each others tendencies, speed, communication style and more.Ĭommunicating from the center back position The reason for this is because in a game they typically will be working together to step and cover in the specific part of the field. When selecting the defenders, I think it’s good to use your 4 midfielders together, then defenders and last but not least the forwards and attacking mids together. Really it’s a game of monkey in the middle or ‘ rondos‘ with 4 “monkeys/defenders”. Get 4 defenders (whether actual defenders, mids or forwards) and put them in the middle of a 30×30 grid. High pressure defensive tactics in soccer The reason is because it will force the other team to make mistakes, leading you to capitalize and score more goals. You can always choose certain times/parts of the game to press high or drop off.Īgain, this comes down to 2 main things in regards to pressing high.Ģ) is your team disciplined to do the hard work/running? If so I would press ALL game long. If your team is not physically conditioned you probably don’t want to press high very much. If you force them in the middle, your midfielders need to be like hungry lions ready to pounce.ĭefenders need to be ready for the long ball #1 and then #2 be ready to close in on a short pass.Ī lot of this depends on how good of shape (condition) your team is. Once you decide where to force the other team to go, your mids and defenders need to be ready to do their part. Whichever you choose, the key is the whole team needs to know and be on the same page. You can’t just mindlessly sprint at the player with the ball and not know where to force them. When pressing high, the forwards need to not only put 100% pressure on the defenders with the ball, but know where to force them. Score ended 0-0, so both teams played well defensively. Both are good defensive tactics in soccer, as long as the whole team works together in this. Montreal in white forced us inside/middle. This highlight of me on Vancouver Whitecaps vs Montreal Impactshows my team Vancouver in blue forcing players wide. There are 2 ways you want to force a player or team. Knowing where to force your opponents when defending Therefore, making it easier for them to keep possession and score on you. If the shape of your defensive unit is not together, the other team will find space between your forwards and defenders. When regarding defensive tactics in soccer, the last thing you want is for your forwards to step high and the mids & defenders to not. It’s important that the players step and coverto apply pressure and support. This way there are no gaps or space between the lines of defense. Midfielders should be about 10-20 yards behind the forwards.ĭefenders should be about 15-20 yards behind the mids. When pressing high it’s important that when your forwards step up, that the mids and defenders also do. When it comes to pressing high, your team has to be disciplined and fit (in good shape physically) as well as good shape formation wise. The opposite of this would be to sit back/not pressure and have your forwards stay around the halfway line. High press defensive tactics in soccerĪ high press is where you want your forwards to press/ push up and pressure the opponents defenders when they have the ball. Below you’ll learn a few ways to build your team and win more games. You can’t have a few players who don’t work with the teams tactical plan. The key to high press is that you have players who buy in to the plan. Our goal as a team was to press the whole game! Coach Lauffer said that in the college level and under there are not many, if any teams who can handle nonstop pressure. He put focus on offensive and defensive tactics, but defense was the first focus. My college soccer coach, Butch Lauffer is one of the best coaching minds. Whether you are an attacking minded or defensive minded coach or player, defensive tactics in soccer needs to be thought of. Parsing an RSS Feed and Storing the Data to a CSV Namely - in the upcoming mini-project, we'll store the data in a Pandas DataFrame. We've formatted the data as a table as a precursor to storing it in a versatile data structure. The output of the code above would look like this: -Ĭongrats! You just parsed your first XML file with BeautifulSoup and LXML! Now that you're more comfortable with the theory and the process, let's try a more real-world example. # Displaying data in tabular format print( '-'.center( 35, '-')) # Storing tags and elements in 'subjects' variable # Storing tags and elements in 'ages' variable # Storing tags and elements in names variable # Opens and reads the xml file we saved earlier with open( 'teachers.xml', 'r') as f: Let's rewrite the teachers.py file with: from bs4 import BeautifulSoup Let's take things one step further, we'll parse all the contents of the XML file and display it in a tabular format. We then iterate over these tags and print their text property, which contains the tags' values. As shown in the code above, soup.find_all('name') returns all the tags in the XML file. The find_all() method returns a list of all the matching tags passed into it as an argument. Running python teachers.py would give us: Sam Davis Create a new file called teachers.py in your working directory, and import the BeautifulSoup library: from bs4 import BeautifulSoup Now that we understand the structure of the XML file - we can parse it. In this case, the characters in the XML document are encoded in UTF-8. The XML prolog shown above indicates the version of XML used and the type of character encoding. It always comes at the beginning of an XML file, although it is completely optional to include an XML prolog in an XML document. The first line,, in the sample document above is called an XML prolog. The, , are children of the tag, and grand-children of the tag. The tag indicates the root of the XML document, the tag is a child or sub-element of the, with information about a singular person. BeautifulSoup parses them automatically, but the underlying elements are task-dependent. Parsing always depends on the underlying file and the structure it uses so there's no single silver bullet for all files. Now that we have everything set up, let's do some parsing! Parsing XML with lxml and BeautifulSoup env/bin/activate # Activate the virtual environment $ pip install lxml beautifulsoup4 # Install both Python packages We'll create a new folder in your workspace, set up a virtual environment, and install the libraries: $ mkdir xml_parsing_tutorial $ cd xml_parsing_tutorial $ python3 -m venv env # Create a virtual environment for this project $. In this guide, we’ll take a look at extracting and parsing data from XML files with BeautifulSoup and LXML, and store the results using Pandas. In Python, we can read and parse XML by leveraging two libraries: BeautifulSoup and LXML. Parsing XML is therefore still a common task a developer would have to do. It found usage in data transmission (representing serialized objects) and configuration files.ĭespite JSON's rising popularity, you can still find XML in Android development's manifest file, Java/Maven build tools and SOAP APIs on the web. Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a markup language that's popular because of the way it structures data.

Don’t worry if you can’t warehouse and sell ALL the bears, and have to let one escape. – Sell bears and cupcakes and buy ducks as you can afford them. – Cage and sell bears one after the other as they fit in the warehouse and on the cart – Now just collect eggs, adding as many ducks as you feel comfortable with and can afford (you can cage the bear and let him escape or capture and sell him, just be careful your warehouse doesn’t overflow while you’re still collecting eggs) – Buy a sheep and sell it right away with any cupcakes – Sell the second bear with enough cupcakes to reach 1000g (with some to spare for watering) – When two bears drop, sell one with any cupcakes you have, warehouse the other – Sell a cupcake to buy another duck, then sell cupcakes and surplus egg solids to buy the remaining two as you finish your cupcake goal – Buy the bakery upgrade as soon as you have 600g – Two bears will drop twice more, sell them one by one with any cupcakes you have (you’ll have to let one bear escape) – Sell a bear, then buy the second egg solid plant Goals: 5 Ducks, 15 Egg Solids, 12 Cupcakes You should have collected your third cupcake by now. – Wait for the car to return, then buy 4 ducks. Warehouse the other or cage him and let him escape – When two more bears drop, sell one with enough cupcakes to get you to 400g. – Sell the other bear and capture the next, sell that when the car comes back – Cage two bears, sell one and then warehouse the other – Collect eggs and send them to the egg solid plant – You can buy the remaining three ducks as you get the money (at the risk of loosing them to bears) or at the end (probably takes a few seconds longer, but both ways should get you to gold with time to spare) – As you acquire money, buy first a second duck, then the second egg solid plant – From now on sell one bear and 1-2 egg solids continuously Just let them escape from their cages if your car’s underway and a bear in the warehouse might prevent you from collecting your egg solid. You don’t need to capture any more bears… but you can cage them to prevent them from stealing your products when they roam too close to your factories. – Buy the second egg solid plant when you can. – Sell the remaining three ducks as soon as you have reached the 20 egg goal (you can also sell surplus eggs, but keep enough to finish your egg powder goal!) – When the car returns again, buy one egg solid plant and start producing egg solids. – When the car returns again, buy two ducks, then sell the next bear with 5 ducks – When the car returns, sell the other bear with 5 eggs – When the bears drop, sell one with 5 eggs and warehouse the other – When the car returns, sell the next bear and two ducks – Capture and sell the bear and any egg solids – Capture the bear and sell it and any egg solids – When then car returns, upgrade the egg solid plant – Capture the bear, sell it and the first egg solid – If you’ve watered and the egg solids are not enough, wait for the bear to drop or for the fourth egg solid to finish processing, whatever comes first – When the car returns, sell 3 egg solids, this should bring you to exactly 300g. – Sell it and the remaining ducks when you have 4 eggs – Water sparingly (you should not need to refill well!) – Buy egg solids plant and start processing eggs one by one To view the walkthrough for a particular level, click on the level name. However he does have some notable weaknesses and thus is not quite on the same scale as a true Supreme Being (such as The Presence). The Spectre was created by Jerry Siegel and Bernard Baily, first appearing in More Fun Comics #52. Part of the reason I found myself making excuses and overlooking the technical hiccups has been that the game is just so damned fun to play. While I was able to overlook these issues, they need to be addressed, and I fully expect another patch down the line given the increasing popularity of this first-party title that looks to be a staple of Microsoft’s lineup for the foreseeable future. The game only crashed entirely on me once and I didn’t lose any progress. The day one patch addressed issues of some invisible objects and the title screen hanging, but as I progressed toward the end of my 15-hour playthrough, I noticed a number of times where Ori would hang in the air for several seconds before the game would resume. Not one to do what I’m told, I played through the entirety of the game on my launch Xbox One and my recommendation still stands. During the review period, it was clear that there were some issues with performance, and while Microsoft assured us these would be addressed with a day one patch, they still recommended that the game be played on an Xbox One X or Windows 10. Ori and the Will of the Wisps, available as a part of Game Pass or $30 to own, is a fantastic game that’s worth whichever price of entry you choose. While initial work on the Switch port saw the game running at just 20fps, the development team spent the time optimizing and tweaking a lot of technical bits and pieces to get that buttery smooth platforming on Nintendo’s system.Login / Register to rate. Ori and the Will of the Wisps plays at 60 frames per second on the Nintendo Switch, matching the performance of that on the Xbox One and PC. Well, it turns out I had nothing at all to worry about Moon Studios has done an absolutely superb job with the Switch port. Still, you can understand my skepticism over Switch’s ability to get anywhere close to Microsoft’s (currently available) most powerful console. I distinctly remember particularly chaotics moments during my Xbox One X playthrough causing a noticeable amount of chugging, which often made saving Ori’s beloved owl buddy, Ku, a bit of a challenge.Īdmittedly, this was before a stability patch sorted things out for the better and seemed to suggest there was some sort of optimization issue rather than how taxing the software was to actually run. Prior to checking out the Switch port, I had some reservations about how it might perform on less capable hardware. Instead, I’ll be focusing on just how the game feels to play on the Nintendo Switch and whether it’s worth a double-dip if you’ve already played it on PC or Xbox One. I’ve already spoken at great length about Ori and the Will of the Wisps in my original review from back in March this year, so I’m not going to spend too much time retreading the same ground here. While a few nips and tucks have been made to bring one of 2020’s most beautiful games to the hybrid system, it still retains all of its magic and plays at a buttery smooth framerate that plays a huge part in making the gameplay feel so satisfying. Just over six months after its initial release, Ori and the Will of the Wisps’ Switch port brings Moon Studios’ latest (and greatest) title to Nintendo. It’s not just aesthetic where Will of the Wisps shines, though underneath its enchanting aesthetic is a challenging platformer that feels just as great to play on Switch as it does on PC or Xbox One. Its magical soundtrack and children’s storybook-style visuals combine to make an utterly engrossing experience that’s among the most well-presented titles of the year. Ori and the Will of the Wisps is up there as one of my favorite games of 2020. Similarly, Gepetto, though overjoyed to have the company of a child, spends no time advising his newborn wooden homunculus on gender or what it means to be a boy, instead sending him away to school the next morning to let someone else do it.Īs you would imagine, Pinocchio quickly ventures away from doing what he’s told. He mentors Pinocchio in a school of Christian morals, espousing “the straight and narrow path” and insisting he avoid temptations while being completely unable to explain why his urges are bad. Except, Jiminy Cricket is a terrible conscience. The Fairy then assigns Jiminy Cricket (who is literally just some cricket with zero qualifying credentials) to serve as the wooden gay’s conscience. A magical twink made of pine, he’s born not-yet-a-boy, and simply has gender roles thrust upon him rather than choosing them for himself. From his very conception, then, Pinocchio exists outside of traditional gender. Seconds after Pinocchio is incarnated as a waifish, mostly hairless being, the Blue Fairy informs him that he’s not a real boy and will have to earn the right to boyhood by proving himself worthy of such a distinction. I speak, of course, about Pinocchio.īased on a 19th century Italian children’s book, Pinocchio tells the story of a marionette brought to life by the Blue Fairy to fulfill the wish of an old woodworker named Gepetto who longs for a son. After all, the first gay Disney character came out in 1940 in the company’s second-ever movie, which starred an androgynous icon whose story speaks more to the experience of queer people than any princess or lesbian cyclops cop ever could. Having said that, I find it odd that Disney is retconning their own history. I’ve written about my distaste for the representation arms race before, and I remain resolute that it’s a useless gesture from a company more concerned with the optics of being progressive than making a meaningful change. To be clear, I don’t actually think Disney putting more people of color or queer characters in their stories is something we should want. Each time, though, it’s usually some minor character with three lines making a comment about their same-gender partner, like the unnamed character that appears for 30 seconds in Avengers: Endgame. It feels like with every other film release over the past several years, Disney has made a big show of announcing it has a new LGBTQ character. Smith approaches his materials with a nod to scientific method through conjecture, research, calculation, testing, and analysis. In this exhibition, objects once symbolic of wealth and leisure are transformed into an extraordinary carnival encampment, the grotto of a wanderer on a quest. Dozens of fabricated ruff collars, historically a mark of social standing and now a typical feature in the costume of a jester or clown, double as a personal horizon line when worn by the protagonist of Smith’s video. Untold yards of raw canvas and brightly colored cloth, stitched into complicated layers and shapes on an industrial sewing machine, festoon and visually unite piles of rescued objects and the ruins of a customized car. Rich in analogy and metaphor, Smith’s exhibition detours the beaten path to arrive at the intersection of the improbable and the possible. Smith’s sculptures, drawings, and repurposed objects also serve as props and tools in his associated video. “Breakdown Lane” is Smith’s version of this machine as it appears for the first time in that parallel strip along the highway where risk and the unexpected stumble to invent repair and redeem a road trip to the unknown.
